About Pentair Heaters

About Pentair Heaters

We carry almost all spare parts on-board, and are factory-trained. Spare parts can also be ordered and picked up from our shopfront at 10 Industry Blvd, Carrum Downs

More Information

They use a finely tuned fan-forced blower for efficiency.

Common Issues

Due to the efficiency of these heaters, there are some issues that can be of concern.

- Leaks on these heaters are often fatal, requiring a new gas heater.

- They are prone to water chemistry issues. When the heat exchanger leaks from corrosion, it can fill the entire combustion chamber with water.

- The bolts on the water manifold are made of mild steel and can rust.

- Can be difficult to diagnose issues.

Pentair / Waterco / Sta-Rite Troubleshooting

Pentair Mastertemp Error Codes & Troubleshooting

Pentair Mastertemp, Waterco Turbotemp, Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm Gas Heater Error Codes:

Service System LED On - Heater not detecting water pressure. Make sure valves in correct position, filters clean, and sufficient water flow through heater.

Service Heater LED On - Cycle Mains power off, then on. Try again. If fault reoccurs, see below.

Other Codes that may be seen:

AGS - Gas Shutoff. Temperature in heater is too high.

HLS - Hi Limit Switch Opened

PS - Pressure Switch Opened. Clean filters and ensure correct water flow.

AFS - Air Flow Switch Failure. Do no operate heater.

SFS - Stack Flue Sensor Error. Combustion may be incorrect.

E01 - Temp Sensor Failed. Water chemistry may be incorrect.

E02 - High Limit Sensor Failure.  Ensure water flow is correct. If this reoccurs,

E03 - Thermal Fuse Failure. Temperature exceeded limits. Do not operate heater.

E04 - Fan Sensor Failure.  Sensor error or blocked / sooted heat exchanger. May be bad gas supply or failed parts. Do not operate heater.

E05 - Stack Flue Sensor Failure.  Sensor error or blocked / sooted heat exchanger. May be bad gas supply or failed parts. Do not operate heater.

Other Issues That Require Service:

Loud, high-pitched whine - Flame is too rich.

Flame is “fluttery.” Flame is too lean. Exhaust may have acrid smell or burner may fail

to stay lit.

Burner pulsates or Exhaust vent is too long. Reduce length of exhaust vent and/or surges, especially on number of elbows.

Boiling in heat exchanger - Low water flow to heater, pump and or filter. May be accompanied by water “bumping” sounds. Do not use heater.

R13 / R8 - Part of Startup Sequence. Wait for next step. Not an error

Smoke or Steam coming from heater. Switch heater off, and gas valve off. Do not use heater.

Frozen Screen - Heater may have restarted too many times. May be gas supply issue.
